Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication engineering at SGSITS Indore was established in 1972 and its first Under Graduate (B.E.) batch passed out in 1974. It offers various engineering degree courses in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering such as Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), Master of Engineering (M.E.) and Ph. D. program. Recently, AICTE has approved the department as QIP center for Ph. D. program from 2012. The department also offers, BE (Part Time Degree Program) for the working diploma holder professionals in the evening.
The Under Graduate course (B.E. - Electronics & Telecommunication Engg) offered by the department has special emphasis on Telecommunication Networks, Digital Signal Processing, VLSI and embedded system. The Post Graduate course (M.E. - Electronics & Telecommunication Engg.) has emphasis on Telecommunication Technology. The department has guided 10 Ph. D. students since 1974. Four research scholars are carrying out their studies in the department in the field of wireless communication, networking and related areas. The department is having academic autonomy since 1991 and is presently affiliated to RGPV, Bhopal.
The laboratories of the department are well equipped with the state of art instruments / equipments. Various laboratories of the department include Basic Electronics Lab., Analog Electronics Lab, Digital electronics Lab, Active & Passive Networks Lab, Electronics Measurement Lab, Analog communication Lab., Digital communication Lab, Radar & TV Lab, Telecommunication Networks Lab, Electronics Workshop, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Optical communication Lab, Microprocessor Lab, and Computer Centre. The department has well established computing facilities with intranet / internet connectivity. The department also offers many subjects in the field of electronics and communication to the B.E. students of other departments of the institute.
During 1991-2002, department participated in IMPACT (Industry Oriented Manpower with Appropriate Competence and Training) Project of Ministry of Information Technology, jointly with SDC and World Bank, as one of the 14 engineering colleges selected on all India basis. Department was involved in CISCO training courses for which the Institute is being declared as Regional Academy (RA) during 2002-2008. Department has its innovation & quality procedures such as (I) regular updating of curriculum, (2) Improvement in teaching methodology using LCD, OHP etc, (3) Learning material development including book writing (4) Laboratory experiments & Journal development (5) faculty and staff training. Recently department participated actively in NME through ICT an MHRD intuitive with IIT Bombay in which two weeks ISTE course on Basic Electronics was conducted for the faculty members of various engineering colleges.
The department has well qualified faculty and trained technical supporting staff. Four faculty members have registered for Ph.D. and one faculty member is pursuing Ph.D. under QIP Scheme. Three faculty members have returned after completing their M.Tech. programs under QIP from various IITs. The department offers expert advice in the fields of Telecommunication Networks, Microprocessor and Embedded Systems and DSP.
The department also conducted training to the engineers / technicians of industries on network management, operation and maintenance. The department has close interaction with Center for Advanced Technology (CAT), Indore in the field of joint conferences, seminars and student’s projects, etc. The department also organizes Industrial visits and expert lectures for the students.
Academic working environment of the department is cohesive and congenial, having good interaction between students, faculty & staff, and also with the nearby R/D institutions and local industries. Many alumni of the department have pursued M. Tech. and Ph.D. studies in various IITs and abroad after securing high percentile in GATE & GRE.
