The course of study is extended over a period of 4 years consisting of eight semesters- two semesters in each academic session.

The course for each session is divided into two parts called Group-A and Group-B. Instructions in subjects of Group-A and Group-B for each year shall commence in July/August and December/January, respectively.

Candidates whose session starts in July/August have their academic year with 1st semester from July/August and 2nd semester from December/January. The admission to 1st year B.E. and direct admission to 2nd year B.E. is made only once in July/August every year.

Candidate whose session starts in December/January have their academic year with 1st semester from December/January and 2nd semester from July/August.

There is an examination in all subjects (theory and practical) at the end of each semester.

Candidates failing in any number of theory or practicals at their 1st semester examination are allowed to appear in those theory or practical along with the subjects of the other group at their 2nd semester examination.

Candidates passing 1st year examination, 2nd year examination, 3rd year examination, are eligible for admission to 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year classes respectively.

Candidates failing in maximum five theory and/or practicals but passing in all other subjects are admitted to the next higher class. This rule of 5 subjects ATKT will be applicable for all fresh students of I yr. B.E. admitted in July/Aug. 2000, from session 2000-2001 (i.e., May 2001 exam.). For all students admitted prior to July 2000, 9 subjects ATKT will be allowed during session 2000-2001 and 2001-2002. For these students, the rule of 5 subjects ATKT will be applicable from the session 2002-2003. The facility of admission to the next higher class is not available to a candidate who for want of minimum required attendance has not been allowed to take examination in a subject/subjects.

A candidate is not promoted to B.E. Third Year unless he/she passes all the subjects of B.E. First Year. Similarly a candidate is not promoted to B.E. Fourth Year unless he/she passes all the subjects of B.E. Second Year.

Candidate failing in theory or practical at any examination is allowed to appear in the examination at the end of the next semester without the necessity of prosecuting a further course of study. However, a candidate who has failed in sessional work or class work in a subject or subjects is required to repeat the course in the next session.

A candidate who fails in examination for any year but secures minimum pass marks in theory or practical or sessional or class work is exempted from appearing at that theory or practical or sessional or class work at a subsequent examination. The marks obtained by such candidates in the theory or practicals or sessional work or class work in which he has been exempted in this manner, are carried over. Candidates failing in class work of a subject will not be permitted to take the theory examination of that subject and candidates failing in sessional work of a subject will not be permitted to take the practical examination in that subject.

In order to pass examination for any semester, a candidate must obtain at least

(a) 35% of the marks in theory paper. (b) 60% of the marks in sessional/class work. (c) 50% of the marks in practical.

The aggregates of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year will be added together for purpose of award of division in the degree and the division will be awarded by taking into account 10%, 20%, 100% of total marks obtained in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year examination, respectively.

Candidate securing 75% or more marks in combined aggregate will be declared to have passed the degree examination in First Division with Distinction, 65% and above in 1st Division and below 65% in 2nd Division.

A candidate is assessed on the basis of marks obtained by him in the exempted subjects, together with the marks obtained by him in the subject in which he reappeared and passed at the subsequent examination.

No candidate shall be permitted to appear in an examination of any subject unless he/she completes the academic requirement:

Satisfactory attendance and
-
Minimum pass marks in Class Work and Sessional Work.

Satisfactory attendance shall mean an attendance of at least 85% of the lectures and practicals separately during the semester, provided that for special reason a further shortage of attendance not exceeding 15% of the total number of lectures delivered or sessional work done in each subject, may be condoned by the Director
