The Department of Civil Engineering is the oldest Department of the Institute. The undergraduate course in Civil Engineering was started in 1956.

The Department is actively involved in Research and Development activities besides the normal Teaching . A number of Research Projects sponsored by various Organization and Consultancy Projects dealing with the live problems of the Field Organizations have been completed by the department
