REPORT OF ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY SAE-SGSITS COLLEGIATE CLUB
YEAR 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006
- An Industrial visit was conducted for the student members to TELCO Pune, ARAI Pune and Mahindra and Mahindra Nashik from 25th,26th and 27th February 2003. On 25th Feb the student members visited TELCO Pune. 26th they visited the various facilities and labs of ARAI, Pune. Mr B Bhanot addressed the student members about ARAI and its services to automobile sector. On 27th Feb. students visited Mahindra and Mahindra Nashik plant..
- Dr. R Mahadevan, Senior Vice President SAE-India, Executive Director India Pistons Ltd delivered expert Lecture on Current Trends in In-Cylinder Component Design of I.C. Engines on 4th April 2003. A large no persons from industry attended the lecture apart from the student members. Dr Prasanna Kumar, CEO L&T Case Equipment Ltd, Mr Ravindra Kulkarni MD, Tata Holset, Mr S K Singh VP Mahle Migma Ltd were also attended the lecture. Dr R Mahadevan also addressed students members and provided with valuable guidance as to how SAE can help them in career building. He also gave awards to office bearers Mr Govind Agrawal, Mr M B Saiju, Ms Nidhi Agrawal and Mr Sumit Choudhary for their contribution in starting the club at SGSITS with 128 members.
- An Industrial Visit to Hindustan Motors limited Pithampur was conducted on 18th April 2003 for student members.
- Mr. Govind Agrawal Vice Chair SAE-SGSITS Collegiate Club was awarded SPECIAL SAEINDIA CHAIRMAN STUDENT BOARD AWARD. on 22nd August 2003 during the Inaugural ceremony of the National Conference on Automotive Infotronics at IIT-MADRAS by the SAEINDIA President Dr. K. Kumar.
- 40 Hrs. Workshop on AutoCAD for student members was organized on 9th , 14th, 20th and 21st September 2003. The training program was conducted in the computer center of IT Department. Mr. Durgesh Joshi, Reader, Production Engg. Dept., Co-Faculty Advisor, SAE SGSITS Collegiate Club. along with office bearers Mr Nitesh Dindorkar, Mr. M B Saiju, Miss Nidhi Agrawal, Miss Aparna Kher, Mr. Pankaj Bhand and Sumit Choudhary imparted training to 40 student members. The Certificates were distributed by Dr A K Jindal, Member WIS.
- SAE Open Field Workshop was organized in association with Sanghi Automobiles (TELCO’s Indore Service Station) on 20th September 2003 in which live interaction of SAE members and TATA service engineers was organized. TATA Indica, TATA Sierra and TATA Safari were kept in open condition to the members for their better understanding of components and functioning of automobiles.
- Miss Nidhi Agrawal and Mr M B Saiju won second prize in the project competition organized by SAE India Western Section on Saturday, 27th September 2003, at A.R.A.I., Pune.
- Miss Nidhi Agrawal was nominated by SAE-WIS for Kalpana Chawla Scholarship award from the western section of SAE
- A Industrial visit to Eicher Motors Ltd was organized for SAE student members on 11th Oct. 2003.
- Mr. Rajesh Mittal, General Manager, Manufacturing, Eicher Motors Limited Pithampur delivered expert lecture on “Total Quality Management” on 15th Oct. 2003. The SAE members benefited a lot from his valuable field expertise. The expert lecture was very enlightening to the members
- Our student members participated & presented papers at several National Level Technical Festival at IIT-D (Tryst 2003), IIT-K (Techkriti-2003), IIT-R (Cognizance – 2003) and BITS, Pilani (Apogee - 2003), NIT- Jamshedpur. They will also participate in International Conference on CAD, CAM, ROBOTICS AND AUTONOMOUS FACTORIES at IIT-D (INCARF – 2003) from Aug 11-13, 2003.
- Intel-Inside Rest-Outside, Automobile quiz organized on 28th March 2004. More than 200 participants participated in the screening round from various engineering colleges of indore and nearby regions. The screening round was followed by audio-visual round, quater final and semi final rounds to the final round. Attractive prizes were given to winners. Mr Ranjan Wadera, Director Eicher Motors were the chief guest of the function. also present on the occasion were Dr A K Jindal, SAE Indore Coordinator, Dr O P Dubey, Dr N K Nagar and Mr D Joshi from SGSITS Indore.
- Expert Lecture of Dr P N Mishra was organised on "Bhagwat Gita and Management" on 5th May 2004 which was attended by a huge gathering of students, faculty members and SAE Industry members. Dr P N Mishra is professor and Ex-Director, Institute of Management Studies, Indore and had been visiting professor to many American universities. Dr A K Jindal, SAE Indore Coordinator, Dr O P Dubey, Dr N K Nagar and Mr D Joshi from SGSITS Indore were also present on the occasion
- 20 Hrs. Workshop on AutoCAD and Pro-Engineer for student members was organized from 17th July to 20th July 2004. The training program was conducted in the computer center of IT Department. Mr. Durgesh Joshi, Reader, Production Engg. Dept., Co-Faculty Advisor, SAE SGSITS Collegiate Club. along with office bearers imparted training to 68 student members. The Certificates were distributed by Dr A K Jindal, Member, GB SAE-I WS.
- Saamarthya 05 – An Event under the aegis of SAE-SGSITS Collegiate Club, The Department of Mechanical Engg and Department of Industrial and Production Engineering jointly organized Saamarthya 05 during 4th to 6th Feb 2005. The event was organized to mark the Hundredth anniversary of Society of Automotive Engineers. Following events were organized under Saamarthya 05.

2. Budding Picassos – AutoCAD Contest
3. Rage Against The Machines- Automobile workshop
4. Urban Legend – Treasure Hunt
5. Mock Campus organized by Professional Tutorials
More than 1500 students from all over the state participated in the event. There were 300 teams in the quiz and around 800 students participated in the Mock Campus.
Automobile Quiz – The first round of the quiz was a screening test of objective answer type questions. 64 teams were short-listed for the quarterfinals. The quarterfinal round was audio-visual round, participants were asked to write the correct responses. 32 teams were selected for semi-final and 4 teams made to the finals. Team from SGSITS got the first and second prize, the third prize went to MITM Indore.
Mock campus – Mock Campus was organized in assocition with the main sponsorer of the event Professional Tutorials, Indore. Group Discussion and Interviews followed written test. Four winners were selected.
Automobile Workshop – Students were exposed to details of automobile through this workshop. The various parts in automobile and their functions were explained by qualified technicians from Tata Motors and Bajaj Auto.
Cultural Nite – Live Wire : Students of Mechanical and Industrial and Production Engineering presented various items as songs, dances, mimkri etc during the cultural nite. The event was compeered by Tejkaran Lamba (IInd IPE) and Nikita Khosla (IIIrd Mech.)
Prize Distribution Ceremony – Mr. U S Kulkarni, Head L&T CASE Equipment P. Ltd., Pithampur honored the ceremony as chief guest. In his speech he stressed on technical education to be more practical oriented and the need for closer industry institute interaction. Also present on the occasion were Dr A K Jindal, GM-Engines, Eicher Motors Ltd., Dr. A G Ambekar, Director SGSITS Indore, Dr N K Nagar Dean Administration and Head IPE Dept and Dr M D Agrawal, Head Mech. Engg. Dept. Dr A K Jindal in his speech encouraged students to actively participate in such technical activities. Dr A G Ambekar expressed his pleasure on the successful organization of the Saamarthya 05 and motivated students to continue the same in coming years. Dr M D Agrawal presented the welcome speech. Dr N K Nagar concluded the event with the vote of thanks.
- Dynamic Cut Section Model of Engine and Drive Line of Eicher Commercial Vehicle was presented to SGSITS by Eicher Motors Limited on 29th April 2005. The actual movement of inlet, outlet valves, piston, etc can be visualized in this cut section model. It also helps to understand how the power and motion in transferred from the engine to the wheels with the effect of changing of gears. The model was presented by Mr. Rakesh Kalra, CEO and MD Eicher Motors Ltd. Welcome address was delivered by Dr M D Agrawal, Head Mechanical Engg Dept. The Cut section model was introduced by Mr. A Nandkumar, Head Service Quarters. Dr A K Jindal, SAE Indore Coordinator and GM Engines hoped that this model will help in developing better automobile engineers. Dr. R C Saraswat Director of the Institute thanked Eicher Motors Ltd and stressed upon the need of more industry institute interaction. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rakesh Kalra asked the students to incorporate innovativeness in their work culture and expressed desire of more interaction with the institute. - Organized 16 hours workshop on AutoCAD for 40 SAE members (Mech. & IPE) of Institute from 17th - 18th September 2005. Mr. Durgesh Joshi, Reader, Production Engg. Dept., Co-Faculty Advisor, SAE SGSITS Collegiate Club. along with office bearers imparted training to 40 student members.
- Saamarthya 06 - Event organized under AAYAAM 2006 in association with SAE – SGSITS Collegiate Club: The Department of Mechanical Engg and Department of Industrial and Production Engineering jointly organized Saamarthya 06 during 19th to 21st Jan 2006. Automobile quiz, AutoCAD design competition, and automobile workshop.
