The department has two fully networked labs with state-of-the art computing facilities and is in the process of developing two new laboratories viz. Mobile Computing lab and Project Lab with the financial assistance under TEQIP project. The Mobile Computing Lab will house the experimental setups based on latest wireless and mobile equipments to impart the knowledge to students in this area, which is one of the important upcoming areas in the field of Information Technology.

The curriculum of the B.E (IT) is reviewed from time-to-time and is revised regularly, keeping in view the needs of industry. The department also provides training and higher learning opportunities to faculty to improve their teaching methodology. The faculty members are also encouraged to take-up consultancy work and carry out research and development activities.

The department has good collaboration with some of the reputed industries. The experts from the industry are invited as visiting faculty as well as for delivering lectures on specialized topics. Many student projects at final year level are also carried out in association with the industries. An internal website has also been developed in the deptt., containing an e-library in which almost 70 books of various subjects have been downloaded which will help the students to improve their analytical and practical skills. Department also conducts certain specialized training programs and in this connection a certificate course on AutoCAD was conducted twice for Mechanical Engineers, in collaboration with Industrial and Production Engg. department of the Institute.

There is a good interaction among students, faculty and the staff. Events are organized for students for development of their personality and skills. Aiming at the same, an Inter College Quiz Competition, "ACIES'06" was jointly organized by deptt. of IT and IEEE MP Sub-Section, on 20th Feb. 2006 at SGSITS, under the college Annual Function AAYAAM-06. Students actively participated in the various Software contests, Paper presentations, Programming contests etc. organized during the annual function. 

The success of IT deptt. can be seen in terms of excellent recruitment of the students of first and second batches passed out in year 2004 and 2005 respectively, apart from their good academic results. Approx. 60% of current final year students have been recruited so far in various reputed companies like Amdocs, HCL, Kanbay, TCS, CSC, Impetus etc. This year, out of seven students of SGSITS recruited by INDUSLOGIC, which offered highest package of Rs 4.25 lacs p.a., three students are from IT deptt. Many students have also secured high ranks in competitive exams like GATE, CAT, Public Sector exams etc. One student of IT III year has secured 7th rank at National level in the GATE-2006 examination.
