The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engg. was established in 1972 . It offers Under Graduate course (B.E.) in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and a Post Graduate course (M.E.) with special emphasis on Telecommunication networks since 2003. The UG course has been AICTE accrediated in 2003. The department is equipped with the state-of-art equipments and has well developed laboratories in the related fields. The department has its own LAN with Novel Netware, Windows-NT and Linux servers (and is connected to the Institute LAN which has radio link with CAT for internet access). The department was selected for project IMPACT, supported by World Bank, Swiss Dev. Corporation (SDC) and Department Of Electronics (now named as Ministry of Information Technology ) Government of India, during 1991 to 1996. The project was aimed at enhancing educational facilities to provide quality technical man power. Laboratory equipments and educational material worth Rs. 75 lacs were provided under this project .

The department also participated in IMPACT-SSS project of MIT, Govt. of India during 1997 to 2002.The Department  has been awarded ISO-9001:1994 certificatification in December 2000 jointly with the Department of Computer Engg. and Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engg. of the Institute.  

The department has been accreditated by AICTE in 2004. The department has been receiving grants from various Government agencies for upgradation and modernization of the laboratories. The department has R&D in the field of modeling and analysis of high speed local area networks, telecommunication switching systems, digital signal processing, optical communication, embedded system etc. Many students and faculty members of the department have received Young Scientist and other prestigious awards . Many alumni of the department have pursued M.Tech. and Ph.D. studies in various IITs and abroad after securing high percentile in GATE & GRE.
