The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering started with the first batch of 10 (Ten) students in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.), passing out in 1974. Presently, the department admits 90 students for the B.E. course and offers a Post Graduate (P.G.) degree course (M.E.) with special emphasis on Telecommunication Networks since 2003. Students are admitted in Under Graduate (UG) course through a State wide admission examination, Pre-Engineering Test (PET). In addition, some seats are available for FN/NRI/NRI sponsored candidates. The department has a tradition of excellent teaching for the last 25 years to the brilliant students of the state. Many of them persue Post Graduation studies at various IITs and IISc after completing their B.E. degree. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members and supporting staff. The laboratories are well equipped and are enriched from time to time by acquiring state of art equipments under various grants such as IMPACT, (a joint project of DOE, SDC and World Bank), AICTE etc. The curriculum is revised periodically keeping in view the latest technological changes. Number of ex-students of the department are working in academic institutions, IES, IAS, multinational companies and abroad. Some of them have persuade their career successfully as an entrepreneur.
The Institute was selected as one of the 14 engineering colleges on all India basis to participate in World Bank and Swiss Development Agency (SDC) assisted DOE project, IMPACT (Industry Oriented Manpower with Appropriate competence and Training) during 1991-1997, with the objective of improving the quality and relevance of education and training in the field of electronics and computer engineering. The department actively participated in all the activities of the project such as IAP, IEP, CEEP etc. During the project, faculty members were trained at various IITs and IISc to enhance the quality of teaching and technical know how which they part to the students in their courses to meet present industry needs. Further, the department has received grant of Rs.75 lacs in terms of various equipments/instruments and pertinent software packages under this project.
The department has a CISCO Regional Academy Status under which more than 250 students have been trained in CISCO networking. Faculty members of the department actively publish papers in national and international Journals/Conferences and participate in such activities. The department has close technical interaction with CAT Indore, MCTE Mhow etc and is benificiary of distance education program of IIT Bombay.
