On February 25, 2023, undergraduate and postgraduate students visited the Khajarana Square site along Ring Road, Indore, to observe an important geotechnical investigation related to the design and construction of a new flyover and its allied works.
The highlight of the visit was the plate load test, performed to determine the bearing capacity of the soil and the expected settlement under load for the proposed open footing foundations. This test involved applying a controlled load on a steel plate resting on the soil surface to measure its deformation response, providing critical data for foundation design.
The practical exposure helped students understand the importance of soil testing in ensuring the safety and stability of large infrastructure projects. The visit also demonstrated how geotechnical engineering principles are applied in real-world construction scenarios, enriching the students’ learning experience.
