Technical Visit to Common Effluent Treatment Plant, Rau, Indore

Date: June 14, 2025
Participants: M. Tech. Environmental Engineering Students
Location: Common Effluent Treatment Plant, Confectionery Cluster, Rau, Indore (Behind IIM Indore)

The M. Tech. Environmental Engineering students undertook an educational field visit to the Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) situated in the Confectionery Cluster at Rau, Indore. This facility, strategically located behind the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Indore, serves as a centralized wastewater treatment solution for the confectionery manufacturing units in the industrial cluster.

The visit provided students with valuable hands-on exposure to industrial wastewater treatment processes, allowing them to observe the practical implementation of theoretical concepts learned in their coursework. The CETP represents an excellent example of collective environmental responsibility, where multiple confectionery manufacturers share treatment infrastructure to manage their industrial effluents effectively.

Students had the opportunity to examine various treatment units, understand the specific challenges associated with confectionery industry wastewater, and observe how different treatment technologies are integrated to achieve compliance with environmental discharge standards. The facility's location within an established industrial cluster demonstrates the practical application of centralized treatment systems in managing industrial pollution.

This technical visit served as an important bridge between academic learning and real-world environmental engineering applications, providing students with insights into industrial wastewater management practices and the regulatory framework governing effluent treatment in industrial clusters.

The experience enhanced their understanding of how environmental engineering principles are applied in addressing the specific wastewater characteristics generated by food processing industries, particularly in the confectionery sector.
