B.Tech Civil Engineering second-year students recently embarked on an enriching exposure visit to Shree Kedar Industries Pvt. Ltd. in Pipalya Lohar, Madhya Pradesh, on July 30, 2025. The visit was organized by SGSITS Indore in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), under the guidance of faculty coordinator Er. Vivek Tiwari.
Industry Exposure at Its Best
The students witnessed firsthand the sophisticated manufacturing process of HDPE, LDPE, and PPR pipes used in water supply, sewerage, and agricultural systems. The visit provided practical insights into modern industrial practices and BIS-compliant quality control measures.
Key Learning Highlights
Students observed the complete pipe manufacturing cycle, from raw material processing at temperatures ranging 190°C-240°C to automated extrusion using PLC-controlled machinery. They learned about:
- Vacuum-based shaping and cooling processes
- Quality testing using UTM machines and MFRT equipment
- BIS certification standards (IS 4984, IS 17425, IS 13487)
- Sustainable practices through crusher-based recycling
Bridging Theory and Practice
The visit successfully connected classroom concepts of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and material science with real-world applications. Students gained valuable understanding of how civil engineers ensure infrastructure quality and safety through standardized materials and practices.
This exposure visit exemplifies SGSITS's commitment to providing comprehensive learning experiences that prepare students for successful engineering careers.
